Scottsdale Public Art was on hand all weekend to promote the ZAP! exhibition and the various activities and events scheduled throughout the summer, starting with the ZAP! Costume Ball on Thursday, June 9th in the Scottsdale Center for Performing Arts' atrium space.
There will be food, music from local band Super Stereo, paparazzi, and prizes. RSVP or just show up, it's free to attend!
I am very excited about the opening of the exhibition this Saturday, May 21st. The show looks amazing and there are some really cool looking comic book covers and back stories on them. Got a quarter? Then you can ride in the Batmobile in the back of the exhibition space (it plays the 1960's Batman show theme song), really fun! If you see an empty Newsstand, don't fret, it will be full Saturday afternoon, courtesy of Jesse James Comics, located in Glendale, AZ.

We will keep you posted on the goings on, also check out the list of events and workshops here and RSVP to a few.
SPA staff is gearing up for the opening of the latest TheGallery@theLibrary exhibition, ZAP! POW! BAM! The Superhero The Golden Age of Comic Books, 1938-1950. This exhibition will display sketches from the original creators of Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman.
Another event that Program Assistant Rasheda Smith is excited for, Phoenix Comicon (! Scottsdale Public Art and the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art will be seated at table #758 at this year's event May 26-29. Passes are still available for online purchase, purchase at the door will cost you more. This is a great venue to introduce the exhibition and to meet new people who may have never heard of SPA or SMoCA before.
Keep checking back for updates on special events and workshops!
